Turns out I practically never use it after all, especially with Swype installed. Despite the fact that the Desire HD has a slightly more powerful CPU, the Z has a dedicated GPU and is actually faster. Frankly, both are great choices but the HD? does have a bigger screen.

Again, they're essentially equal, but... Hmm... I'd say, if you're into watching lots of videos, you probably should go for the HD for the slightly bigger (though again, same resolution) screen. If you think of your phone as more of a? tool though, the Z is probably a better choice.

Not exactly; they're pretty much equal, but with different advantages. The HD has a slightly bigger screen (resolution is the same? though), but at the same time that makes it pretty big for a cellphone and therefore less portable. The Z has a nice physical keyboard which is great if you don't like tactile keyboards and it can be used with emulators, but that does make it heavier. Also, the Z is actually faster, but the HD has better speakers.

I beg to differ. I see defensive and self-righteous "macfags" constantly despite not even hanging around phone sites, but I've never seen a fan of Nokia (or any other? brand of phone for that matter) act that way. Of course there's bound to be idiots everywhere, but they're not nearly as common.

They're indeed very, very similar. I've owned an HTC Desire Z for the past month and a half or two, and I thought I'd really need the physical keyboard on it since I generally don't like tactile keyboards a whole lot. Turns out I practically never use it after all, especially with Swype installed. Despite the fact that the Desire HD has a slightly more powerful CPU, the Z has a dedicated GPU and is actually faster. Frankly, both are great choices but the HD? does have a bigger screen.
