I suppose, if you had the right adapters. You would need to go from whatever the output on the PC is to a "mini DisplayPort" -- which is the video portion of Thunderbolt. Not sure if it will work, and you may have to? spend more money on a string of adapters than it would cost to get a cheap LCD monitor.

Is it possible in any? way to hook up the thunderbolt dislpay to a pc?
By: charmingboots. on 16 Nov 11, 18:12:22
Thank you very much!? :)
By: macmostvideo. on 13 Nov 11, 05:15:34
Thunderbolt incorporates DisplayPort and happens to use the same size connector as the "mini DisplayPort." But it is much more. a "super? set" if you will.

is thunderbolt the same exact as display port? or a special mac version?
By: FoxTail8000. on 03 Nov 11, 23:40:45
Thank you for the complete explanation of Thunderbolt!?
By: morava1. on 18 Oct 11, 16:22:49
thanks? for the info.

The only way is to get a Mini DisplayPort (Thunderbolt) to HDMI? adapter. Get one that supports both video and audio (most do but you have to check). This one works: macmost.com/kanex-iadapt-hdmi-v2.html

Whats the best way of connecting my 2011macbook air to tv and home theater system? Does thunderbolt transmit only video or both audio and video? should i connect everything to my receiver and in? that case should i use HDMI for vid and optical cable for audio? and if so would both of these cables be connected to thunderbolt port through an adapter??? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Im an amateur and don't know shit when it comes to this stuff :)
By: X3BOOODYX2012. on 06 Oct 11, 10:33:46
also USB 3.0 5Gbit/s = 0.625GB/s (8? bit - 1 byte) means that thunderbolt is the fastest!

still confused...?
By: webDes33. on 28 Sep 11, 14:12:48
external GPUs are coming? yay!!
By: macmostvideo. on 23 Sep 11, 14:23:34
Possibly. I don't know enough about HBA devices to? say one way or the other.
By: morpheus117. on 23 Sep 11, 11:20:51
Gary, do you think this connection can be introduced in the? medium/long term in the SAN world as a substitute of HBA's devices that are very expensives? Actually, the speed on this devices is exactly 10Gbps...Obviously, it would be necessary to modify fiber switches but...how knows, in terms of cost.
By: macmostvideo. on 16 Sep 11, 15:17:00
It? is a chicken and egg problem: no one was going to build devices for it until computers had it, now that computers have it, they are starting to produce devices. This happens all the time with new connection options. Give it some time.
By: xXTurdSandwitchXx. on 16 Sep 11, 15:13:08
Its so fast, but its useless because theres no devices that use it, and the ones that do are rediculously expensive?
By: oworufus. on 14 Sep 11, 21:06:14
ahh damn it!?
By: macmostvideo. on 14 Sep 11, 21:03:30
No. Thunderbolt only? started appearing on Macs in 2011.
By: oworufus. on 14 Sep 11, 20:44:46
wait can it work with the older models of macbooks like my? macbook mid 2008
By: macmostvideo. on 10 Sep 11, 20:49:07
Yes, it would be better to compare Thunderbolt to eSATA, not? USB. But does it really matter? These are just tools. Use the tools you need to get things done.
By: 2003SCT. on 10 Sep 11, 16:50:30
And since the debate around the web seemed to be Thunderbolt vs. USB 3.0, your kind of telling me its not a debate....because USB isn't going anywhere, is already in use, is fast enough for all but the most demanding of applications, is backwards compatable etc. Most people care about hooking things to a computer and? as you explain, few things would really use this...well unless you don't have USB ports and you use an adapter. Maybe a Thunderbolt vs. eSata is more relevant? I dunno
By: macmostvideo. on 10 Sep 11, 16:48:04
No one is forcing you to buy Thunderbolt devices. You don't need to use it. Mac users have? many different needs. We're all different.
By: 2003SCT. on 10 Sep 11, 16:42:01
O.K. I see. But to be honest, it seems like a "great leap forward" for a tiny percentage of the population who would actually use this...like people who do large video editing...but still only use a laptop to do so.? Desktop people and tablet people...almost irrelevant. Average laptop user...almost irrelevant. I use a couple of large lcd tv/monitors simultaneously in my setup already with Eyefinity, so it doesn't offer me any benefit in that does it?

Thunderbolt is a great leap forward. It is not for printers, mice, keyboards, etc. Those will stay USB. Thunderbolt doesn't replace those. This is for? high-bandwidth items like displays, video feeds and drives. It replaces the idea of adding fast internal cards to computers (only possible with towers) with a simple cable so it can be done on laptops and non-tower desktops.
