If it couldn't handle the extreme cold then it's probably too late to save it now. However, if it did survive and you bring it inside, it might mistake the change in temperature for springtime and start developing too early. It should normally start developing when daytome temperatures start hitting the 70's and 80's, and emerge in early summer.? :-) i just found one ... However, the environment you keep the cocoon/pupa in makes all the difference. The change from cold to warm normally triggers them to develop, so after a couple of months in the refrigerator (35F - 45F) they can be taken out to? room temperature (70F - 80F) to get them started. It may take 40-60 days for them to compleremty develop once they are "triggered" to break diapause by the shift to warmer temperatures. Good luck! :-) Does removing the ... Overwintering pupae go through a period of cold temps (winter) and then an increase in warmth and humidity as spring arrives. That change in the environment is usually the trigger. If you pupae have never seen cold temps, you might need to chill them for a while, then bring them back into warm temps. Fortunately, Polys have LOTS of eggs (like 300-500) so you may still get some fertile eggs so long as she's got? some energy left. Males can have trouble locating females in close confinement, especially with no breeze to directionalize the scent plume. Males can also bump into the girl a lot which can cause her to stop scenting for a bit. A larger cage might help some. Usually, unmated females (even older ones) will call before or after their nightly egg-dumping fits. If she's only a day or two old and already dumping eggs (especially if there are a LOT of them), is there any chance that she got mated while you weren't looking? She'll scent again each night and probably dump more eggs if still not mated. That cycle continues until she runs out of energy/eggs and dies. Leave her outside all night; she may be attractive to males even though she doesn't appear to be scenting. Some people use a cage with 1/2" diameter holes so wild males can mate with them right through the cage from the outside.
