Sharon Stone as Catherine Tramell is / was one of my? very? favorite femme fatals on screen, she pretty much was? the definition of an "icy blonde": sophisticated / lethal / slick (she even carries an ice pick) really great popcorn film. i saw this on the big screen, couldn't believe folks in the theater here in La La Land scoffed when she kissed "Roxy". ah well...still a great and now classic post-modern film noir. Love it. ?

Yeah, many A-listers of the time turned down the part cause they were afraid of their "reputation"! lol Sharon Stone had nothing to lose. The film -although controversial- became a huge hit,? Stone became a star and the rest is history.

And in fairness Jan De Bont's cinematography is great to look at as always, I liked "Speed" and sort of enjoyed "Twister" but his work since indicates directing maybe isn't his true calling.? And given what she had to work with Sharon Stone does turn in one of her few memorable performance in a role that could have been unplayable. And Jerry Goldsmith's music score was good, he's one of my faves. And I will probably rent the sequel even though the word wasn't good on it.

I'm sure if I caught this when I was 16 yeah I probably would have dug it. I saw it again on cable not too long ago and it just leaves cold. But yes that nightclub bit is great, Paul has a fetish for using them for his films, why not? If I remember at the time Paul in an interview said? this was a kind of Hitchcock hommage. so that planted the idea in my head. So when I see it, I make the comparisons and I'm like no Paul, your ok but your not Hitch. Oh if you want to add it, cool,, hee hee!

I think Verhoeven was too 'stylish' to imitate Hitchcock. But I found it a lot of fun on the big screen with an unsuspecting audience (yes, saw it way back then!!). That nightclub sequence would have to go down as one of the funkiest scenes in 90s cinema!! It's on YT too, but with a bizarre stretched aspect ratio and a bit blurry. I might consider adding it myself, correct aspect, digital? sound, and HD, he he.

Glad this is back, love the trailer! The film I don't much care for, without the sex scenes its not very interesting. "Sea of Love"? did this a hundred betters and Brian de Palma does a better job with his Hitchcock imitations and "Body Double" was way cooler and smuttier than this, hee hee! If almost as brainless. Thanks for posting!
