I'm? not arguing with this statement. All I'm saying is that religious people, while suffering from a mental illness, are able to reason in some cases, to some degree. They are not totally retarded. Of course, religious beliefs will affect one's ability to reason to a degree one believes in supernatural. Religious fanatic, for instance, won't be able to reason most of the time. But a person following the herd (herd mentality) in this particular aspect, might be able to reason in other areas.

Interesting point? of view. While I do agree with the message "Any religious person is suffering from a mental disorder", I don't believe it's appropriate to state that all religious people are retarded. Yes, any religion is totally irrational, but irrationality is NOT universal. In other words, one can be rational and productive in some aspects of life, while suffering from delusions and irrationality in others. Example: A talented mathematician, who believes in god. A lot of those out there.

I think it would be an interesting journey trying to figure out whether modern religion could be classified as equivalent to schizophrenia. One thing is for sure though, religious people are delusional, and there must be some form of psychosis that you can label them with just due to the fact that there entire life is based on delusions. Don't? forget that schizophrenia is very much related to delusions and so I can see where calpurnpiso is coming from.
